Christine Scalzi Crowned 2023 Cherry Queen as auction raises $60,000 for Variety SA
A winning bid of $60,000 has crowned Christine Scalzi 2023 Cherry Queen following this morning’s cherry auction held at the South Australian Produce Market. The 5kg box of South Australian grown cherries came in at a premium of $12,000 per kg! To celebrate the 2023 South Australian cherry season, South Australia’s wholesale fruit and vegetable market community went head to head in an auction bidding war this morning in Pooraka to raise money for Variety SA.

SA cherry season kicks off with auction expected to raise more than $50,000
South Australia’s cherry season will kick off in time for the festive season, with the South Australian Produce Markets celebrating by hosting an auction set to raise funds for Variety the Children’s Charity. On Wednesday November 29, a box of the state’s finest locally grown cherries will go up for auction at 7am with bids expected to exceed $50,000, making it Adelaide’s most expensive box of fruit.

South Australian 2023 Strawberry Season Celebration
The South Australian Growers Association, in conjunction with the SA Produce Market and Pick a Local, Pick SA! Celebrated the SA grown strawberry season at an event on Friday November 10 at the Adelaide Central Markets. The event was a celebration of the SA grown season and a reminder to consumers that South Australian grown strawberries are in season and available at their local fruit and veg stores now.
