Persimmons
Persimmons are not as popular in the fruit bowl as other fruits, but their bright, tomato-like appearance definitely offer a burst of colour, not to mention a sweet almost honey-like flavour. They have many health benefits being rich in antioxidants and contain many nutrients including fibre and vitamin A. This tasty fruit can be eaten as easily as an apple or pear and enjoyed fresh, dried or cooked and included in jellies, curries, puddings and drinks. Indulge in something different and include persimmons to your shopping basket to be enjoyed as a healthy snack.
Rocket
As the warm weather continues, this week we are highlighting Rocket which is a delicious Mediterranean leafy vegetable that can be included in your salads for easy weeknight meals. Rocket has an intense peppery taste which compliments salads, and it is also perfect for pizzas, pasta, wraps or enjoyed alongside scrambled eggs. Rich in antioxidants, nitrates, folate and vitamin C, be sure to enjoy these health benefits with a delicious Rocket, Pear and Parmesan salad with balsamic dressing or Rocket, lemon and Pine nut salad – toss together and enjoy!
Missile Apples
Missile apples are simply scrumptious! Locally grown in the Adelaide Hills at Lenswood, these perfect on-the-go snack is the perfect balance between crunchiness and juiciness. Not only do they taste amazing but with a bright red, thin skin and super sweet flesh, these apples are the perfect size for little hands and the whole apple is eaten so no wastage. Carrots
The humble carrot is available all year round so what better time to shine a spotlight on our locally grown varieties harvested straight out of the Northern Adelaide Plains. Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, providing more than 200% of your daily requirement in just one carrot! They also double as a great natural immunity booster so add them in your next vegetable soup or roast dinner to reap the health-rewards. It doesn’t matter if they’re eaten raw, roasted, steamed or mashed.
