Joanna was appointed Chairman of the SAPML Board in May 2020.

The inaugural female Chairman of the SAPML Board, Ms Andrew brings with her a wealth of experience as a legal practitioner being a Partner with Mellor Olsson and having vast experience in both Corporate Governance and the Agricultural industry.

Raised in the Riverland on a grape and citrus property, Ms Andrew became a partner in the South Australian legal firm Mellor Olsson at the age of 28 and was an InDaily 40 Under 40 Award Winner in 2018.

Michael has been a Board member since 2008 and brings 28 years’ accounting and taxation experience. A qualified Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Taxation Adviser, Michael is a Managing Partner of Bentleys Accountants, Auditors and Advisors. He specialises in finance, Capital Gains Tax, taxation, business and property and currently sits on the Audit, Corporate Governance & Finance Committee.

Pat has served on the Board since SAPM’s inception in 1987. Bringing over 50 years’ experience in the fruit and vegetable wholesale industry, Pat is the Managing Director of Scalzi Produce, a fresh produce wholesaling business based at the South Australian Produce Market. In 2000 he received an Order of Australia Medal for his service and extensive contribution to the local horticulture industry.

Andrew was appointed as a Director in November 2022 and brings over 25 years’ professional architectural experience and is a third generation family member involved in the fruit and vegetable industry.

Andrew brings a wealth of experiences including:

• Past SA President Australian Institute of Architects
• Over 25 years professional architectural experience.

Tony has been a Board member since 2007 and brings 33 years’ experience in the fruit and vegetable industry. Tony is the Managing Director of R Ceravolo & Co Pty Ltd, a major apple and pear grower in the Adelaide Hills. He is also the Managing Director of Ashton Valley Fresh Co Pty Ltd and Ceravolo Orchards Pty Ltd. All of these companies have a wholesaling presence at the South Australian Produce Market. Tony also serves as a Director of The Apple and Pear Growers Association.

Derrick has been a Board member since 2014 and brings over 40 years’ experience from the fresh produce retailing sector. The former Chairman of the “Go Green Grocer” retail State-wide campaign, Derrick has more recently operated My Greengrocer in Burnside Village and Waggon Wheels in Blackwood. He has remained the co-Chairman of the annual, industry-run Cherry Ball since 1997.

Christine has been a Board member since 2014 and is the second female ever to serve on the SAPM Board. Christine has over 25 years’ experience from the fresh produce wholesaling sector and is currently a Director of the herb-based wholesaling business, Select Naturally.

Angelo Demasi has been the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the South Australian Produce Market Limited (SAPML) since March 2002, following his initial appointment as Market Accountant/Manager in March 2000. He brings over 30 years of senior management experience, with expertise spanning property and facility development, as well as the fresh produce, meat, bakery, manufacturing, and retail industries. Angelo is a qualified accountant and a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Management and the Institute of Public Accountants.

Before joining SAPML, Angelo served as the Accounting and Finance Manager for the meat and smallgoods division of Woolworths Limited. His career is distinguished by his exceptional leadership, strategic decision-making, and his ability to foster impactful partnerships across both private and public sectors.

As CEO, Angelo is highly respected for his expertise in stakeholder engagement and industry advocacy. His leadership has significantly advanced innovation, sustainability, and business growth within the industry. In recognition of his contributions, he was named one of The Advertiser’s Top 50 SA Most Influential People in Food in 2015.
