March 25 In Season at the Market

Figs

Fig season, which is from January to April, is coming to an end but our local growers still have plenty of this delicious, sweet fruit available.  The entire fig is edible and can be eaten either raw or dried however, dried figs contain more calories, sugar, dietary fibre whereas fresh figs will have more vitamin C, vitamin A and beta-carotene. Fresh figs taste amazing, and this diverse fruit can be utilised in so many ways, whether they’re a sweet addition to your next cheese platter, taking centre stage in your next dessert or zesting up a salad, these South Australian grown figs can’t be beat.

Zucchini

The versatile zucchini is great to include in any hearty meal which can include vegetarian lasagna, soups, stirfrys, fritters and slices.  The health benefits of the zucchini boasts to be rich in vitamin B6 which suggests to help with regulating blood glucose and as they are low in calories but rich in water and fibre, they are great for gut health.  Be sure to add zucchini’s to your shopping basket to include in your gourmet cooking adventures.

Pomegranates

Indulge in the exquisite taste and vibrant hues of in-season South Australian grown pomegranates! These luscious fruits are a true delight for the senses. Bursting with ruby-red arils, each bite offers a delightful explosion of flavour. Red Love Apples

Hopefully you have heard of Red Love apples, locally grown here in the Adelaide Hills at Lenswood, as they are certainly making a statement at the moment.  These beautiful apples are not only red on the outside, but also red on the inside!  They have a similar fresh tart flavour of a Granny Smith and as they are so unique with a red flesh, they look aesthetically pleasing on cheese platters and fruit platters.  Red Love apples are also great for apple pies, galettes, jam and grated into salads for a zesty twist.  Look out for these red beauties at your local fruit and veg store for the whole family to enjoy!
