South Australian Produce Market celebrates 30 years of memories
The South Australian Produce Market Limited (SAPML), South Australia’s only wholesale market, has reached an exciting milestone as the company prepares to celebrate 30 years of delivering fresh fruit and vegetables to consumers.
The South Australian Produce Market was established at Burma Road, Pooraka in 1988 after the closure of the East End Market.
The Market is the first privatised Market in Australia showing how innovative the company has been since its inception.
As it stands, SAPML trades over 250,000 tonnes of fresh produce between 45 wholesalers, 60 growers and hundreds of retail operators each year, worth an estimated wholesale value of $550 million.
As an initiative set up by the very people designed to work and operate within the market, the Market continues to play a vital role in connecting the supply chain.
With several new projects underway, SAPML is keeping the future of the industry looking bright with the States very first onsite microgrid to ensure the market can remain self sufficient and the development of a Food Precinct, connecting more businesses to the market.
Chief Executive Officer of SAPML, Mr. Angelo Demasi, said the milestone reflects the hardworking efforts of the supply chain.
