South Australian 2023 Strawberry Season Celebration

The South Australian Growers Association, in conjunction with the SA Produce Market and Pick a Local, Pick SA! Celebrated the SA grown strawberry season at an event on Friday November 10 at the Adelaide Central Markets.

The event was a celebration of the SA grown season and a reminder to consumers that South Australian grown strawberries are in season and available at their local fruit and veg stores now.

Pick a Local, Pick SA! Brand Ambassador Callum Hann cooked up two strawberry dishes with a cooking demo on the Adelaide Central Market Community Kitchen and attendees got to sample in season strawberries with cream.

The event then saw Little Heroes Founder and Ambassador Chris McDermott and Tony Modra go head to head in a strawberry themed cake decorating competitions that was judged by MasterChef Callum Hann. The ex footballers were put out of their comfort zones but Tony Modra kicked some goals with his winning creation.

The generous grower of South Australia donated a cheque of $5000 to the Little heroes Foundation as part of the event.  Donations from Ceravolo Orchards, Gully View Fruits, Kuitpo Forest Strawberries, Mt Barker Strawberries, Beerenberg, AF Parker and Sons, Foodland, Scalzi Produce, Little Hampton Marketplace and Murray Bridge Fruit and Veg collectively were presented on behalf of the SA Strawberry Growers Association. .

The South Australian grown season runs for approx six months of the year first picks hit the market in late October.

The weather has been much kinder to growers in 2023.  In 2022 SA was hit with weather events that took out the first pick of the season and was devastating for growers.  In 2023 we have had great weather to kick of the season and supplies are looking plentiful.
