November 2 In Season at the Market

Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.

Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.

Nectarines

Man holding tray of nectarinesSouth Australian stone fruits are being picked in the Riverland right now and have arrived at the markets. Nectarines are a smooth skinned peach so for those that don’t like that fuzzy texture and want a slightly sweeter fruit they are a great alternative.  Nectarines are versatile, you can use them in both sweet and savoury dishes and are great for a pop of colour in your salads.

Strawberries

The South Australian grown strawberries have started to arrive in increased supplies at the markets. The weather has not been kind to our growers, which is delaying the peak of the season, but with the best tasting strawberries in the country grown right here in the Adelaide Hills – they are worth the wait.

Peaches

For those that have been waiting for the stone fruit season, wait no more because we also have the first picks of the Riverland Peaches at the markets and headed to local fruit and veg stores. Not only do peaches taste fantastic, but they are also rich in Vitamin A and their skin full of fibre. If your peach is not ripe enough for eating leave it out on the kitchen bench – but if it is ready for eating and you have too many – remember to store them in the fridge.

Red Oak Lettuce

If you want to switch up your lettuce buy this week, look for South Australian grown red oak lettuce.  Grown hydroponically it is a great addition to salads, sandwiches and burgers. You may find these lettuce heads in a duo with their counterpart the Green Oak Lettuce which combined make for a great looking salad.
