May 8 In Season at the Market

Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.

Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.

Bravo Apple

Bravo apples have a vibrant burgundy skin that makes them stand out and with their sweet flavour and moderate crisp and crunch, they are sure to please.  With a high concentration of flavonoids, not only are they excellent for your health, but unlike other apples, their flesh is ultra slow to turn brown which is a great addition to your grazing boards and cheese platters. Being a medium-sized apple with good storing, they are also a healthy snack or addition to lunch boxes for the whole family.  Be sure to look out for these “burgundy beauties” in your local fruit and veg store.

Beetroot

The hearty beetroot can often be overlooked, but now is the perfect time to incorporate them into your next roast dinner. Their vibrant and rich shades add great colour to your dish, along with their fantastic earthy flavours. Roasted beetroot goes great with pumpkin, feta and rocket in a salad – or simply add them to your roast vegetable medley.

Cherry Truss Tomatoes

Cherry Truss tomatoes are tasty treats which are ripened on the vine and have a flavour which is hard to beat. They are rich in vitamin B, iron, zinc and potassium and they’re higher in vitamin C than other tomatoes.  This versatile little taste explosion is ideal to use for bruschetta, salads, pizza, pastas and casseroles.  They are also great as a side dish when they are roasted on their vine.  Be sure to pick up Cherry Truss tomatoes when you are next at your local fruit and veg store – you won’t be disappointed!

Zucchini

As we move further into the cooler seasons, we see the crowd-pleasing zucchini come into great supply! This antioxidant rich veg improves heart health, aids weight loss and contributes to healthy digestion. Not only are they great for their many health benefits, they’re also incredibly versatile – perfect for sneaking in extra nutrients into your meals!
