Pink Lady Apples

Who doesn’t love a Pink Lady apple? If you like crisp, sweet apples, you’ll be delighted to know that this delicious variety is in plentiful supply.  Did you know that for an apple to be called a Pink Lady it must adhere to strict growing conditions? The apples must have the correct colour and contain a specific sugar and acid content. Pink Lady apples are one of the healthiest varieties with an average sized Pink Lady making up approximately a quarter of your daily vitamin C intake, making them a perfect addition to kid’s lunchboxes and the household fruit bowl.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower, which is grown in the northern Adelaide plains, is in plentiful supply so take advantage of this versatile vegetable to add to your curries, roasts or slow cooked meals.   With high quality crops, cauliflowers are not only great tasting but also affordable in your weekly shop.  With the weather cooling down, what a better way to incorporate these low fat, high nutritional vegetable into your hearty meals.  If you have never tried cauliflower mash – you will be surprised how great this low carb substitute is. Mash up the cauliflower and add some olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper and let your tastebuds enjoy!

Gold Kiwi Fruit

Although kiwi fruit doesn’t grow in SA, we’ve just received gold variety kiwi fruits straight from their source in New Zealand.  These golden beauties have a more tropically sweet taste compared to the everyday green varieties. They also have a smoother, less furry skin and are bursting with even more vitamin C! Make sure you pick some up this week from your local fruit and veg while they’re in good supply.

Navel Oranges

With the official start of the South Australian citrus season, new season navel oranges are fresh off the tree and these sweet, juicy oranges are ready to be enjoyed by the whole family.  What a better way to get a tasty boost of vitamin C with winter fast approaching.  Navel oranges not only can be enjoyed on their own as a healthy snack, but they can also be enjoyed in savoury or dessert recipes.  Be sure to grab some from your local fruit and veg store and include these sweet, juicy oranges to the kids lunch boxes to help keep them healthy through the winter months.
