Buddha’s Hand

The Buddha’s hand is definitely an exotic looking fruit that you stop and take a good look at in your local fruit and veg store.  This fruit resembles either an open or closed hand with bright, yellow, long finger like segments.   As it contains no fruit or pulp, it is extremely fragrant and the zest adds a lovely lemon blossom-like flavour to salad dressings, marinades, baked good and drinks.  The peel can also be candied.  This bright and unusual looking fruit can be stored in your fruit bowl for up to a week but can last up to a month in the refrigerator.  Keep an eye out for them at your local fruit and veg store.

Zucchini

The versatile Zucchini is great to include in any hearty meal which can include vegetarian lasagna, soups, stirfrys, fritters and slices.  The health benefits of the zucchini boasts to be rich in vitamin B6 which suggests to help with regulating blood glucose and as they are low in calories but rich in water and fibre, they are great for gut health.  Be sure to add zucchini’s to your shopping basket to include in your gourmet cooking adventures.

Butternut Pumpkin

Butternut squash, more commonly known as Butternut pumpkin are currently in season from Autumn to Winter.  This delicious type of squash that grows on a vine, so technically is a fruit, has a sweet, nutty taste and is great accompanied with your traditional roast, soups, curries and salads.  Butternut pumpkin can also be eaten raw if you thinly shave into ribbons and marinade in a zesty dressing or it can be roasted with the skin on.  Be sure to include this family favourite on your next grocery shop.

Corella Pears

With the return of school, why not add a healthy snack to your kids lunch boxes and enjoy the taste and texture of the Corella Pears.  These beautiful pears are small to medium in size, have a sweet, mild flavour and the flesh is creamy, juicy and crisp.  Packed with Vitamin C, fibre and potassium these pears will help provide a healthy boost to your loved ones.  Be sure to grab some Corella Pears the next time you are in your local fruit and veg store.
