Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.
Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.
Sweet Corn
The only thing sweeter than biting into some delicious sweet corn is knowing that it’s locally grown, and the South Australian climate is perfect for growing sweet corn. You can test them out for yourself right now as the Riverland grown veg are in season. Eat them whole, barbecued, boiled or in a salad, it doesn’t matter – right now they taste as good as ever and is our pick of the week!
Strawberries
Adelaide Hills Strawberries are relishing in the summer sunshine we are experiencing this week. Supplies of locally grown strawberries are plentiful, and the quality is high. Great for a snack on the go, in desserts and fruit salads – be sure to pick some up in the weekly shop and support our South Australian growers.
Blueberries
Next time the kids want a snack – instead of hitting the sweets aisle why not try a punnet of blueberries. You will find good supplies of locally grown blueberries this week in your local fruit and veg store that are bursting with antioxidants and goodness for young and old. Try popping three at a time in your mouth for a full flavour burst when eating them straight for the punnet – or load up your morning smoothie for a summer burst of flavour.
Rockmelon
Nothing says summer like melons – and it is great to see the supply of Riverland grown Rockmelons on the market floor this week making their way to local fruit and veg stores across Adelaide. Like most fruits, rockmelon has high water content, at almost 90% which means it is a great fruit to eat to help you keep hydrated throughout summer. If you are hosting a party, try this great recipe for a Rockmelon Frose you will be sure to impress your guests!
