February 20 In Season at the Market

Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.

Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store. 

Duchess Pears

This week at the markets we have the first supplies of Duchess Pears locally grown in the Adelaide Hills. You will find the Duchess are one of the juiciest of pear varieties, are a good source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that can help protect the immune system, and are also high in fibre, which can help improve digestion. A refreshing summer snack to add to the fruit shopping this week.

Honeydew Melon

South Australian Riverland grown Honeydew melons are now in season and they are providing incredible flavour right now. But get in quick! They locally grown will only be available for a short time before going out of season for another year. For a healthy, refreshing summer treat, try a honeydew sorbet.  Honeydew melon contains 53% of your recommended daily value of vitamin C to help heal wounds and keep teeth and gums healthy.

Coriander

Coriander is one of those herbs that you either love it or you hate it!  For those that enjoy Vietnamese cooking, Coriander is a staple and adds a burst of flavour to your Vietnamese Roll or Pho.  For those that enjoy Mexican food – add a little coriander to your salsa and we promise you won’t be disappointed. Grown right here in the Northern Adelaide Plains look for some at your local fruit and veg store this week.

Eggplant

Eggplant, also known as Aubergine, is often seen as a great meat-replacement in plant-based recipes, but don’t be fooled into thinking they’re only good for vegetarians. Eggplants are in great supply right now and have plenty of benefits, including reducing the risk of heart disease, assists with blood sugar control and weight loss.
