April 26 In Season at the Market
We all have our own preference when picking the perfect banana – whether it’s still a little bit green or covered in brown freckles, there is plenty of supply of this potassium punching produce in SA this week. And what better time to enjoy a banana than this week as we celebrate National Banana Day Sunday May 1.
Bananas
While bananas are not grown in SA, we do ripen them locally which supports the economy. Your local fruit and veg store only stocks locally ripened bananas fresh from the SA Produce Market ripening rooms so you know you are getting the freshet quality when buying from a Pick a Local, Pick SA! Store.
Join us at Adams Apple West Lakes this Friday 29 April 10:30-1:30 to celebrate Australia’s biggest banana split giveaway! Head down with the kids for a free banana split, face painting, banana temporary tattoos , colouring in competition and more.

Quince
Having just been picked from the Adelaide Hills you won’t find fresher, better tasting quinces anywhere else. These apple-looking fruits are rich in nutrients, aid with digestion and may even alleviate pregnancy-induced nausea! When choosing the right quince always check for a solid-feeling fruit with minimal bruises. As the fruit ripens the furry outer layer will fall off and they will be perfect for eating.
Rhubarb
If you’re looking to add a bit of tartness into your next dish, then consider using rhubarb. This vibrant pink-red fruit has an interesting, sometimes bitter, taste that can be beautifully incorporated into both sweet and savoury dishes. Whether you’re pulling out some old rhubarb recipes, or looking to experiment in the kitchen this week, now is the perfect time to put the humble rhubarb to the test.
Gold Kiwi
Although kiwi fruit don’t grow in SA, we’ve just received gold variety kiwi fruits straight from their source in New Zealand. These golden beauties have a more tropically sweet taste compared to the everyday green varieties. They also have a smoother, less furry skin and are bursting with even more vitamin C! Make sure you pick some up this week while they’re in good supply.
