Riverland Cherries
Cherry season is officially here — and we’re celebrating in a big way! 🍒
South Australian Riverland grown cherries are now available, with peak season running from mid-December through to mid-January. And this Wednesday, we’re marking the occasion with our 2025 Cherry Auction — one of the most exciting mornings on the market calendar!
The annual cherry auction will be held this Wednesday, November 26 from 6:00am (auction kicks off at 6:15am sharp) as the market comes alive with friendly competition, community spirit, and of course… some truly spectacular cherries. All proceeds proudly support Variety – the Children’s Charity, helping kids and families in need across SA. Don’t miss the fun, the energy, and the chance to be crowned this year’s cherry champion!
Zucchini
In great news we are seeing stronger supply of zucchini coming through the market after struggling through tough growing conditions recently. While many would consider zucchini a staple vegetable in their pantry, did you know that it is actually a fruit? As a variation of the summer squash, zucchini is harvested in the immature stages of growth while the seeds are still soft. Rich in fibre, zucchini can help with digestion and due to its high water content, acting as a delicious low calorie snack.
Chickpeas
Chickpea season is well underway across South Australia In Adelaide’s temperate climate, chickpeas are planted through the winter months (May–August), developing slowly through the cool season before hitting their stride in spring. By late spring and early summer (September–December), the crop is ready for harvest — making November the prime time for growers to bring in their chickpeas. This month typically marks the tail end of the season, with most harvesting wrapped up by early November, before warmer weather or late frosts set in. Chickpea growth is especially sensitive to spring conditions, with frost during flowering and pod set posing key risks for yield. Despite these challenges, South Australian growers consistently deliver high-quality crops that support both local markets and export demand.
Fresh, local, and in season — grab some chickpeas from your local fruit & veg store and taste the difference!
Capsicum
As we get closer to Christmas, we are going to see more supplies of the glasshouse lines from the northern Adelaide plains. It is great to see a steady supply of capsicums in the South Australian Produce Market this week. Believe it or not, there is technically no difference between a red, green, orange or yellow capsicum. They are all picked from the same plant at different stages of ripeness once they reach maturity. Capsicums always start off green, turn yellow, then orange, and finally red; each stage of ripeness holds different flavours and uses in the kitchen.
