Nov 17 In Season at the SA Produce Market
Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.
Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.
Apricots
As South Australian stone fruits have started to roll in from the Riverland you will now find apricots in your local fruit and veg store. Apricots are a great source of many antioxidants, including beta carotene and vitamins A, C, and E. Apricots are also very low in sugar – they have less sugar than berries making them a great choice when you’re looking to switch up your fruit routine, while still snacking on something tasty and healthy.
Cherries
The first picks of cherries for the season have arrived from the Riverland which means it is not long until Christmas. The Adelaide Hills crops will still be a few weeks away but should be a great supply in time for our Festive tables and in time for our annual Cherry Auction that will take place on the 26 November.
Peach
For those that have been waiting for the stone fruit season, wait no more because we also have the first picks of the Riverland Peaches at the markets and headed to local fruit and veg stores. Not only do peaches taste fantastic, but they are also rich in Vitamin A and their skin full of fibre. If your peach is not ripe enough for eating leave it out on the kitchen bench – but if it is ready for eating and you have too many – remember to store them in the fridge. And if you are after some inspiration, try this delicious peach donut recipe you will thank us for it! https://www.abetterchoice.com.au/recipes/peach-donuts/
Green Oak Lettuce
If you want to switch up your lettuce buy this week, look for South Australian grown green oak lettuce. Grown hydroponically it is a great addition to salads, sandwiches and burgers. You may find these lettuce heads in a duo with their counterpart the Red Oak Lettuce which combined make for a great looking salad.
