June 29 In Season at the SA Produce Market

Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.

Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.

Kalettes

Kalettes are now in season! A delicious cross between kale and Brussels sprouts, these vibrant little greens combine the sweet, nutty flavour of Brussels sprouts with the earthy goodness of kale. Their frilly leaves, tender stems and satisfying crunch make them perfect for roasting, stir fries, salads or simply sautéing as a tasty side. Not only are they packed with flavour, they’re also loaded with vitamins A, C and K, plus fibre, making them a nutritious addition to your winter meals.

Dekopon Mandarin

Dekopon Mandarins have arrived, but only for a limited time. With a season lasting just a few weeks in South Australia, now’s your chance to experience one of the sweetest citrus fruits around. They are easy to spot thanks to its oversized shape, distinctive “top knot” and lumpy skin. Naturally sweet, incredibly juicy, seedless and easy to peel, Dekopon Mandarins are the perfect healthy snack for the whole family. In Japan, they’re even given as gifts because of their exceptional flavour. If you spot them at your local fruit and veg store, don’t miss your chance to try this seasonal favourite before they’re gone!

Curly Parsley

Fresh, vibrant and full of goodness, Curly Parsley is in season and ready to brighten your meals. Known for its beautifully ruffled leaves and fresh, slightly peppery flavour, curly parsley has a slightly more bitter taste than flat leaf parsley, making it a popular choice for garnishing dishes while still adding plenty of flavour. Sprinkle it over soups, roast vegetables, grilled meats or potatoes, stir it through sauces and stews, or add it fresh to salads and tabbouleh for a burst of colour and freshness. For the best flavour, add curly parsley at the end of cooking or enjoy it raw in your favourite dishes. Rich in vitamins, it’s an easy way to add both flavour and nutrition to every meal.

Red Brussel Sprouts

New season Red Brussels Sprouts are starting to appear, bringing a colourful twist to this winter favourite. Their vibrant purple hue comes from natural pigments and stays beautifully bright even after roasting, steaming or sautéing. With a milder, sweeter flavour than traditional green Brussels sprouts, they’re a great way to win over even the biggest sprout sceptics. Roast them with olive oil, salt and pepper until caramelised, toss them through a stir fry, or serve them as a colourful side to add a pop of purple to your next hearty meal and impress your dinner guests.
