August 24 In Season at the SA Produce Market
There’s plenty of fresh South Australian produce moving through the SA Produce Market this week, with great local supply across a range of fruit, vegetables and herbs.
Here are four of our picks to look out for at your local independent fruit and veg store this week.
BASIL

Locally grown basil from the Northern Adelaide Plains is looking and smelling fantastic this week. A wonderfully versatile herb, basil is perfect paired with Roma tomatoes and bocconcini for a simple salad, tossed through pasta or made into fresh pesto. For something different, try pairing basil with strawberries — its fresh, aromatic flavour works beautifully in sweet dishes too.
BROCCOLI
South Australian broccoli is in strong supply through the Market this week, making it a great addition to the weekly shopping basket. Packed with crunch and incredibly versatile, broccoli can be roasted as a simple side, steamed, added to stir-fries or enjoyed raw in salads. It’s also a great source of vitamins C and K.
TANGELLO

South Australia’s citrus season is still in full swing, and tangelos are in great supply at the Market. Sweet, tangy and wonderfully juicy, tangelos are easy to recognise by their orange skin and distinctive knot at the stem end. Enjoy them fresh as a snack, squeeze them for juice or use their bright citrus flavour in salads, cakes and muffins.
FLAT BEANS
Have you tried flat beans? Also known as runner, Helda or Romano beans, these distinctive beans have wide, flat edible pods and a fresh flavour with a satisfying crunch. Enjoy them raw and finely sliced through salads, or try them steamed, sautéed or grilled. Look out for fresh flat beans at your local fruit and veg store this week for something a little different to add to the dinner rotation.
