March 03 In Season at the SA Produce Market
Buying and eating in season produce is good for your nutrition and helps the economy, our seasonal updates are here to lend a hand.
Let us inspire you with just a few of the fresh, locally grown produce now in season at the South Australia Produce Market that you will find at your local fruit and veg store.
Missile Apples
The first Missile apples of the season have arrived! These perfectly pocket-sized apples are crisp, juicy, and make an ideal on-the-go snack—great for kids’ lunchboxes and a healthy treat for the whole family. Keep an eye out for these delicious Missile apples at your local fruit & veg store and enjoy their fresh, crunchy goodness!
Fuji Apples
Fuji apples are a variety of apple that are renowned for their juicy, sweet flavour and crisp texture. They are a great source of vitamin C and fibre, but they do have one of the highest sugar contents in apples making them ideal to use for apple pies, tarts, cakes and muffins. They are also delicious to be eaten on their own for that crisp, refreshing snack, added to lunch boxes or included in salads for crunch. Fuji apples are also an excellent addition to your cheese platters as they pair beautifully with cheeses such as gorgonzola, blue cheese fontina and Havarti.
Kiwi Berries
They’re like mini kiwifruit! Not only are kiwi berries adorable—they’re also juicy and fun to snack on. Kiwi berries are bite-sized fruits that look like a fusion of kiwifruit, grapes and kumquats. The major difference between kiwi berries and kiwifruit is that the berries have a leathery, smooth, green skin. They’re good for you, too! Kiwi berries are rich in vitamins C and E and naturally low in fat, cholesterol and sodium. They’re also an excellent source of fibre, magnesium and potassium.
Red Sensation Pears
These gorgeous Red Sensation pears are the essence of an SA autumn! Their rich red-orange hue is matched only by their incredible flavor, which is at its peak right now. With only a limited supply grown in SA, don’t miss your chance to enjoy this seasonal delight. Grab some from your local fruit & veg store before they disappear!
