These locally grown beauties are everything we love about strawberry season: big, bright, sweet, juicy, and full of flavour. Perfect for snacking straight from the punnet, topping your summer desserts, adding to salads, or pairing with savoury dishes for a fresh twist. And there’s even more to love — SA strawberries are naturally packed with antioxidants, including vitamin C, to help support your immune system. Look for South Australian–grown strawberries at your local fruit & veg store and enjoy the freshest taste of the season!
Coloured Cauliflower
The most common colour of cauliflower is white, but did you know that they also come in coloured varieties – purple, green and yellow. Funny enough, the coloured varieties are more nutritionally valuable than their white counterpart due to a higher concentration of vitamins and other elements, and they look quite pretty too. All cauliflowers have firm florets with the same texture and a similar mild, sweet, and nutty flavour. Coloured cauliflower can be prepared the same way which can be roasted, steamed, mashed, fried, grilled, or made into rice.. You can also eat all of them raw which makes for great colour and texture in summer salads.
Cucumber
Who doesn’t love refreshing cucumbers at this time of year? Their peak season is from November to March, however, they are commonly found all year round. They add crunch to a variety of salads and sandwiches or are a great healthy snack on their own or with your favourite dip. Cucumbers are grown on creeping vines and their large leaves form a canopy over the fruits. There are several different varieties of cucumbers but the most commonly known are the Continental, green or Lebanese. As cucumbers contain 95% water, be sure to add them to your shopping basket when at your local fruit and veg store to add to your healthy, weekly meals.
